New Varieties Bring New Management to Ensure a High-Quality Crop

Soybean growers searching for more options to increase and protect yield potential while fighting off tough weeds can now use XtendFlex® soybeans. Offering tolerance to dicamba, glyphosate and glufosinate, XtendFlex makes a great choice for weed management flexibility in soybeans. With more acres now using this trait platform, I compiled some insights on how to manage this technology for the 2021 growing season.

What Are XtendFlex Soybeans? And Why Should Growers Use Them?

XtendFlex soybeans feature a new technology with tolerance to dicamba, glyphosate and glufosinate, providing more options for weed control. This new technology is built upon the top-performing, high-yielding Roundup Ready 2 Xtend® technology and was approved for use by the European Union, allowing growers to start planting in 2021.

With weed resistance a recurring problem, XtendFlex soybeans allow growers more flexibility in their weed management practices to pick and choose herbicide options best fit for their operation and unique weed challenges.

Managing Tough-to-Control and Resistant Weeds with XtendFlex

The triple-stacked technology of XtendFlex soybeans gives growers more choices in their integrated weed management practices for pre-emergence or postemergence to combat tough-to-control weeds, such as waterhemp, Palmer amaranth and resistant weeds.

For growers using the Roundup Ready® Xtend Crop System and facing dicamba-resistant weeds or wanting to proactively avoid resistant weeds, XtendFlex soybeans provide glufosinate as a postemergence option for weed control, offering relief to many who battle resistant weeds.

Weed Management Practices to Start Strong and Stay Strong

For a strong and successful season, having a proactive weed management plan is critical. Don’t wait till weeds emerge to combat them. Start this season with a clean field by developing a burndown program before planting to allow for clean spraying throughout the season.

In addition to burndown, scouting early and often helps manage early-season weed problems. Reach out to your local Nutrien Ag Solutions retailer to discuss effective weed management plans to start and end the season strong.

We are proud to help growers find the right technology for their unique operations, including XtendFlex soybeans in Dyna-Gro® Seed varieties in a range of maturities, from 0.09 to 6.8. Talk with your local crop consultant about soybean varieties with XtendFlex soybeans to protect your crops from day one.
